York Preparatory Academy will be celebrating Black History Month throughout February honoring men and women for their impact and legacy.
Today we honor Marshall "Major" Taylor, a "bicycle racing sensation" who "emerged as a national figure both for his undeniable talent and his position as a Black man pushing the limits of acceptability in an athletic forum." Taylor won the 1899 World Championships in Montreal, Canada and published his autobiography, "The Fastest Bicycle Rider in the World." Taylor "paved the way for Johnson, Owens, Robinson and the other Black champions who followed his blazing trail."
