York Preparatory Academy will be celebrating Black History Month throughout February honoring men and women for their impact and legacy. Today we honor Lewis Howard Latimer for his contributions towards engineering and the creation of the telephone and light bulb. Escaping from slavery with his family at age 6, Lewis Howard Latimer taught himself drafting and worked side by side with Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell leading to many engineering breakthroughs. In 1890, he went on to publish a book entitled, "Incandescent Electric Lighting: A Practical Description of the Edison System."

Athletic Update: Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys Soccer Tryouts
Varsity Soccer tryouts for 8th-12th grade girls and boys is Tuesday, 2/09 at 3:30 pm. Athletes should bring tennis shoes, cleats, shin guards, and a water bottle (no water will be provided). Girls should use the back doors of the gym and meet in Coach Bahr's classroom (SU 230) at 3:30 pm to review their paperwork prior to tryouts. Boys should plan to meet on the field with Coach Chad at 3:30 pm to review paperwork. Athletes are required to have all forms and physicals submitted to https://www.planeths.com/ prior to tryouts. Athletes will also be asked to complete the Covid-19 Screen Form.

Varsity baseball workouts will begin Monday, February 8, 2021 and continue for two weeks from 3:30-7:00 pm each day. Players will need to bring full baseball attire. Athletes will be utilizing the baseball field and weight room. The tryout date is February 20 at 1:00 pm. Athletes will be notified by Monday, February 22.
