York Preparatory Academy will be celebrating Black History Month throughout February honoring men and women for their impact and legacy. Today we honor Lewis Howard Latimer for his contributions towards engineering and the creation of the telephone and light bulb. Escaping from slavery with his family at age 6, Lewis Howard Latimer taught himself drafting and worked side by side with Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell leading to many engineering breakthroughs.
