Get a head start on college by pursuing a 2-year Associate’s Degree while in High School. Working with York Prep's partners, USC Lancaster, Winthrop University, and York Technical College, students can take college classes based on their interests that transfer to to a 4-year Universities or College. Students may elect to participate in York Tech's Bridge Program with direct transfers to Winthrop University, Lander University, University of South Carolina, and Columbia College.
Is it your passion to play sports on the college level? York Prep can help you reach your goals by partnering your passion with skills and knowledge. Student-Athletes will complete fitness, health, strength, and conditioning classes. In addition, students will take high school and college courses on video creation, digital art, marketing, and social media for the development of an athletic recruitment website. Students have the option to complete their Personal Training Certificate.
Love making a difference in the life of a child? Taking Dual Enrollment classes at York Technical College, students will graduate with their Certificate in Early Childhood Development. The Early Childhood Development certificate program prepares graduates for entry-level roles in early childhood settings that serve children birth through age 8. Students have the option to continue towards their Associate in Applied Science major in Early Care and Education.
The Nursing Care certificate is for students seeking a career in the healthcare field. Graduates will be able to take the SC Certified Nursing Assistant exam. CNAs may be employed in hospitals, long-term care, assisted living, and home health. Students who complete this program and meet other conditions will qualify to get on the Associate Degree Nursing program wait list.
The Patient Care Technician Program is one of the most versatile in the medical field today. Patient care technicians are multi-skilled healthcare providers, with training in basic patient care, blood collection, and electrocardiography and work in hospitals, long-term care, assisted living places, clinics, labs, and doctor's offices. Graduates will be able to take the SC Certified Nursing Assistant exam and have the option to continue towards their completion of the Associates of Applied Science in Major Technology.
Trainers lead, instruct, and motivate individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and stretching. They work with people of all ages and skill levels in a wide variety of settings. Students will be able to complete a college-level certificate within one year after high school graduation. The personal trainer program is part of the university transfer pathway for Exercise Science at Winthrop University. Students will complete an internship experience and learn how to create fitness plans based on the individual’s goals.
Cybersecurity is a fast-paced field that is perfect for anyone who loves technology and problem-solving. Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, The Advanced Network (Cybersecurity) Certificate provides students with skills in IT Security and Privacy and secure network configuration using both Windows and Linux. Students will study services such as email, web servers, and database servers as well as secure programming, vulnerability assessment, and computer forensics.
Do you like technology and working with your hands? Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, students will study programming, databases, operating systems and data communications. The PC Technical Support Certificate provides students with skills needed to obtain a job in a tech support call center. Students study programming, databases, operating systems and data communications and have the option to continue towards an Associates in Applied Science Computer Technology.
Are you passionate about art and technology? Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, students will earn their Digital Art Design Certificate obtaining skills needed to obtain jobs in graphic design learning state-of-the-art hardware and software. Courses will include digital photography, web design, and computer animation. Students have the option to continue their education pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Digital Arts.
Interested in a career in video and sound editing, camera operations, field production, studio production, or digital photography? Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, students will learn the basics of digital video and sound editing, camera operations, field production, studio production, and digital photography. Students may pursue an Associate of Science Degree with a major in Teleproduction Technology.
Enjoy working with your hands and solving problems? Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, students are prepared for jobs in mechanical maintenance and industrial equipment repair. Students are trained in mechanical theory and progress to complex mechanical systems and troubleshooting techniques. A graduate of this program is prepared to be an industrial maintenance mechanic and have the option to continue towards an Associate in Applied Science in Industrial Maintenance.
Interested in working with technologies used in today's manufacturing? Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, students learn blueprint reading, precision measurement and gaging, manual and CNC machining, CNC programming and operations, CAD/CAM applications, heat treatment processes, and CMM (coordinate measuring machines) programming and operation. Students in the Machine Tool program can also earn an Associate's degree with a concentration in Machine Tool Technology.
The building industry faces a shortage of 65,000 to 80,000 skilled craft workers each year. Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, students may choose to complete the Residential/Commercial Carpentry Certificate, Residential/ Commercial Plumbing Certificate, Residential/Commercial Wiring Certificate, or Masonry Certificate. Students may continue to complete their Associates Degree in Construction Management Technology.
Looking to work in a high-demand field? Taking Dual Enrollment classes at York Technical College, students pursue a Basic Welding Certificate or a Welding Diploma. In the Welding Diploma, students learn skills in gas, arc, TIG and MIG welding and receive hands-on in safety, blueprint reading, metallurgy, weld inspection, pipe fitting/welding, and metal fabrication. Students who wish to continue their education in welding beyond may also pursue an Associate of Science Degree in General Technology with a major in Welding.
Interested in repairing, inspecting, and maintaining commercial and privately-owned vehicles? Taking Dual Enrollment courses at York Technical College, students will receive training in refinishing, sheet metal, and structural repair along with training in electricity/electronics, HVAC, steering and suspension, and offers a well-planned mix of automotive repair courses along with collision repair specific courses. The Collision Repair Certificate carries the industry ICAR accreditation and operates using an industry designed and supported program of study.
