HEALTH AND NURSING

Purpose

The YPA School Nurse Program serves to promote health and safety, facilitate positive student development, and to intervene with actual or potential health issues that could pose as a barrier to the education process. We are here to serve students with chronic conditions, as well as emergent needs and minor injuries that happen during the school day. Contact your school nurse if we can help in any way.

Note From the Nurses:

Covis-19 Update

The CDC and DHEC have released updated isolation recommendations for those impacted by COVID-19.  While it remains a threat, widespread immunity, vaccinations, and increased treatment tools have significantly decreased the number of hospitalizations and deaths associated with COVID-19. The new guidance suggests returning to normal activities when an individual's symptoms are improving and they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

New exclusion information can be found on the SC Exclusion List.  As a result of this COVID-19 update:

  • YPA no longer requires a 5 day isolation period when students test positive for COVID-19.

  • Students can return to school when symptoms are improving and they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

  • YPA no longer accepts positive home test results to excuse COVID-19 related absences.

  • Submit a medical or parent note to the attendance department at attendance@yorkprepsc.org

Contagious and Communicable Disease Tracking

York Preparatory Academy is required to track contagious and communicable diseases including but not limited to: Flu, Covid-19, respiratory, gastrointestinal, skin, and other disease categories listed on the SC Exclusion List. If your student has received a diagnosis from a physician, please use the following FORM LINK to help us identify, report, control, and prevent the spread of infectious disease.

Staying Healthy

Here is a reminder of the best health practices to decrease the spread and transmission of viruses here at school and throughout the community.

  1. Please remember to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw used tissues in the trash. If you don't have a tissue, cough, or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands.

  2. Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, dry hands with a paper towel, and use the paper towel to turn off the faucet. If soap and water are not available, hand sanitizers may also be used to perform hand hygiene.

  3. Remember to stay home when you are sick and follow the recommendations listed on the SC Exclusion List.
