YPA is guided by a Governing Board that is elected annually by the staff and parents or guardians of enrolled students. Members of the Governing Board may include parents, staff members, teachers and community members. The Governing Board will consist of seven elected members with voting rights as well as non-voting/ex-officio members. The governing Board will be re-elected annually. 

The Governing Board has the authority to develop policies, make decisions and execute each of the following responsibilities:

• Employee agreements and contracts with Principal, teachers and non-teaching employees
• Ensure that all certified personnel and non-certified teachers undergo background checks and other investigations before they are employed in the school
• Contract for additional services, including but not limited to transportation, financial, food, accounting and legal
• Develop pay scales, performance criteria, and discharging policies for its employees, including the school’s administrator
• Deciding all other matters related to the operation of the school, including budgeting, curriculum, and operating procedures
• Ensure that the school will adhere to the same health, safety, civil rights, and disability rights requirements as are applied to all public schools operating in the same school district

Non-Voting/Ex-Officio Members

The school's Managing Director and at least one teacher from the Primary (K5-1), Intermediate (2-3), Transitional (4-5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12) and Special Service areas will be ex-officio members of the Governing Board with the responsibility of providing educational knowledge, data, and information to help the Governing Board make informed decisions.
