Much has transpired this past month as our community nears closer to the opening of our public charter school for this fall! For starters, enrollment for the lottery ended January 31th, allowing YPA to hold its f
irst annual public student enrollment lottery on February 20th. There were close to 1,800 of our local area children that took part in this event, as individual names were pulled from a lottery system. This was a great undertaking with many thanks to all who participated in this event.
As the priority of a tuition free public education is to provide you the parent the best possible experience in education for your children, we all look forward to YPA playing a positive part in each of our children’s lives and therefore encourage your feedback as we move closer to planning our fall enrichment programs. Consequently, those selected from this lottery process will be sent a welcome packet around March 15 to contain such forms as registration, program offering surveys, and other helpful information needed by YPA to best place your child. Look for these packets and note the specified return date.
Teacher hiring has been moving forward with highly qualified and motivated teaching candidates! These candidates go through a rigorous interviewing process, are screened, vetted, and approved by the YPA Board prior to receiving a contract. Teachers will begin to be announced on the YPA webpage at the start of April. Here you will find a short bio, picture, and description of how these individuals will serve YPA this fall.
YPA’s Operating Committee (OC) has been formed! The OC consists of members of the Board, the Managing and Academic Directors, and parental volunteers who have made a commitment to move forward with various responsibilities. These responsibilities are governed by chairs and organized subcommittees. In general, YPA’s yearly operations will be outfitted by these ongoing and significant roles. As these and other events continue to unfold, look to the YPA webpage as the best source for the latest information about our school.
Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome at any time, and not just about our web site. Please feel free to contact any member of our school. If you don't know to whom to address your thoughts, send them to me. I'll see they are directed to the appropriate person, or respond myself.
Thanks for supporting York Preparatory Academy!
