K5-4th Grade Principal
From an early age I knew that I wanted to teach. As a child, I would spend countless hours playing school. I would create various activities and at times my younger brother would even play along. The more I learned in school, the more my passion flourished. Thus, despite attending several schools due to my father’s job as a United Methodist Minister, I would not be who I am today if it was not for my teachers. My teachers are the ones who believed in me, inspired me, and equipped me.
As a result in 2002 I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) where I was awarded the North Carolina Teaching Fellow Scholarship. Then, in 2006 I graduated from UNCG with a Bachelor’s in English and my teaching license. With my degree in hand, I was hired to teach at the high school I graduated from- Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, North Carolina. As a teacher, there was nothing that excited me more than facilitating learning and watching as my students discovered their gifts. My teachers were the ones who brought learning to life and the more I came to know my students the more I wanted to do more. Therefore, in 2010 I decided to pursue my Master’s in School Administration at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. As an administrator, I served as a full-time Principal Intern at Guilford Elementary School from 2011-2012, as the Assistant Principal of Ramseur Elementary from 2012-2014, as the Assistant Principal of Ashbrook High School during the 2014-2015 school year, and as the Assistant Principal of York Preparatory Elementary School during the 2015-2016 school year.
On a personal note, I am married and I have two little boys-William who was born in April of 2013 and Samuel who was born in April of 2015.
I truly enjoy being a part of the YPA team. It is a joy to work with the students, staff, parents, and the community to help students cultivate their passion for life-long learning as they discover their strengths and as they build a strong foundation for their future.
